Three pallet types compared: which is the right choice?

Pallets are an important part of logistics and influence both efficiency and costs in shipping. But which type of pallet is suitable for which application? We compare three common types in this article: Wooden pallets, pressed wood pallets and molded fiber pallets.

1. wooden pallets: The robust classic

Wooden pallets are the industry standard when it comes to heavy loads and robust transportation solutions. They offer a high load-bearing capacity and are moisture-resistant. However, they take up more space in storage and are often costly to dispose of.

✅ Advantages:

• High load capacity (up to 900 kg)
• Weather resistant
• Reusable

❌ Disadvantages:

• Heavier than alternatives
• High space requirement
• Disposal can be costly

2. pressed wood pallets: The space-saving alternative

Pressed wood pallets, also known as INKA pallets, are made from pressed wood chips and are particularly space-saving as they are stackable. They are ideal for export as they are ISPM-15 compliant and do not require any additional treatment.

✅ Advantages:

• Lighter than wooden pallets
• Stackable to save space
• Environmentally friendly, as it is made from reclaimed wood

❌ Disadvantages:

• Lower load capacity (up to approx. 800 kg)
• Not suitable for moisture

3. molded fiber pallets: The sustainable solution

Molded fiber pallets are made from recycled waste paper and offer an environmentally friendly alternative. They are significantly lighter than wooden pallets and can simply be disposed of in the waste paper recycling system after use.

✅ Advantages:

• Very light - saves transportation costs
• Easy to dispose of via waste paper collection
• Cost-effective

❌ Disadvantages:

• Maximum load only approx. 300 kg
• Not moisture resistant
• Not suitable for overseas transportation

Conclusion: Which range suits your needs?

• For heavy loads and robust applications: Wooden pallet
• For space-saving storage and export: Pressed wood pallet
• For light goods and sustainable disposal: Molded fiber pallet
